Steampunk DesignRichard Mueller · Minneapolis

Portfolio · 2008–2026 · Minneapolis

Sixteen things I made that are still running.

From the brass-and-parchment years of 3232 Design to now: a song you walk through, worlds you tilt, a desk for novelists, and homes for friends’ work. Every one is live. Pick one and step in.

Worlds you walk through

Story you find by moving: your feet, your phone, your head.

You Are Hear

A song stands in the street around you, one instrument here, another there. Put on headphones and walk through it.

Bionik Music, for Northern Spark · Design and code

  • Node
  • socket.io
  • Web Audio
  • GPS + compass

Made for Northern Spark in 2015 and rebuilt in 2026. No GPS? Tap where you want to go and wander. The 2015 version still runs at /classic/.

Worldly and Worldmaker

A circular story told on tiny planets of Minneapolis; tilt to travel. Worldmaker turns your own 360 photo into a world with story walls.

My own · Concept, design and code

  • three.js (WebGL)
  • device tilt
  • IndexedDB

The 2014 story still runs. Worldmaker (2026) lets anyone turn a 360 photo into a world of their own, with story walls.

3232 Design

The studio as a workbench: a brass instrument for a menu, an eye that follows you, rings you turn to choose a page.

3232 Design, my studio · Concept, design and code

  • PHP CMS (Coeditor)
  • JavaScript
  • once Flash + ColdFusion

The studio site from 3232 Design in Minneapolis, kept as it was now that the studio is Steampunk Design. The eye still follows you; the dial was mended in 2026 so it turns again.

  • WordPress
  • city maps 1874–1906

First built in 2013 on a spreadsheet feed; rebuilt on Leaflet in 2020. Houses appear in the year they were built.

Cowriter 2 (2026) is the desk; the 2013 app still runs at /classic/, and its books open in the new one.
